Boothbys mest kända skapelse är den mystiske Doktor Nikola. Doktorn förekommer i fem böcker, men det är egentligen bara tre som har honom som huvudperson. I bok ett och tre är han den då och då uppdykande skurken, medan han i bok två, fyra och fem har en slags antihjälte-roll.
